We have had a great relationship with local professionals through the years who appreciate the effort Hillcrest students put into their broadcasts. They have helped us with videography and special lighting projects. Broadcasters like KYTV have given us expert advice from time to time, and even loaned us b-roll of national or world events for our magazine show.

Our volunteers have been the unsung heroes of our broadcasting classes. Each year we encounter major hurdles and challenges that we could not overcome without the help of a variety of volunteers. From parents, to former students, to interested professionals, to Hillcrest staff personnel, we have been blessed with great support.

One of the biggest projects our volunteers ever helped us with was the remodeling of the old metal shop, which we turned into the permanent home of HTV during the summer of 1997. Our classroom reflects the creativity of Tim Smith, who created the floor plan, and Warren Akers, who constructed the individual edit bays. The color and graphic designs in the room were the work of students and volunteers. Smith, a former TV and radio professional in Springfield, has been a volunteer at HHS for over three years. Akers is the husband of the vocal music teacher at Hillcrest and one of the owners of Midwest Construction of Springfield.

They are great examples of the kind of energetic, supportive volunteers we urge you to seek as you build your program.
