We have three separate broadcasting classes at Hillcrest. The most visible is Broadcast Journalism II News, a course for students who are interested mainly in the production of "HTV Magazine," our monthly program about teen issues. This class is considered the staff of HTV, but students in the other classes contribute to the show from time to time. Students are selected for BJII News based on their work in Broadcast I.

The second class for experienced broadcast students is Broadcast Journalism II Production. These students work on a variety of creactive programs and projects that don't necessarily have a journalistic purpose. Again, these students must have completed the first-year broadcasting course, and they are placed into this class based on their interest and ability.

The third course we offer is Broadcast Journalism I, a class for beginners. The students in these classes learn the basics and eventually begin producing pieces for our daily video announcements and also for "HTV Magazine" when they are ready. The prerequisite for the Broadcast Journalism I course is a year of speech, and that can be waived only by the broadcasting teacher.

All of the broadcast courses are for juniors and seniors, but each year Mr. Davis allows four or five outstanding sophomores who have had Intro Speech to enroll. The courses all meet a language art requirement at Hillcrest, but they do not replace an English I, II or III requirement for graduation.
